Change Your Body, Change Your Career?
How Anyone With A Passion For Fitness Can Make it A Real Career, And Never Worry About Money Again
Every single year hundreds of people will think about getting into fitness as a career but have no idea where to start

Especially since there’s a lot of BS thrown around about the industry like the following myths:
it too saturated, There aren’t any jobs, there’s no money in it and, it’s not a real career

or even worse the false belief that you have to be an absolutely ripped up athlete for you to succeed,
cause, hey I used to think all that too

And if you’d seen me at age 15, obese with a set of breasts you could milk a cat with

I was literally the last dood picked for any team for any game in school,

I actually walked around the pitch when everyone else was playing GAA ….smoking fags

(No shyte the above is completely true)

Well you would have said I was the last person who would get into this gig
Now I’ll save ye the life story but, safe to say I turned all that shyte around

Fitness has a funny way of doing that

It can affect you in more ways than just aesthetically, I mean as you will already know fitness is the most under-utilised anti-depressant

It’s ability to change even the most stubborn of minds is well documented and this has far reaching positive benefits in literally every other area of your life

And this is probably the reason you’re reading this too.

Let me take a few guesses to see if were on the same page

Fitness has become your thing, in fact getting into the gym and training has kinda put the rest of your life into perspective.

If you have an office job right now all day all you can think of is “Is it gym o’clock yet?? “

like I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard people say “I watch the clock all day in work until it’s time to hit the gym”

Sound about right?

I bet, you’re reading everything fitness related you can get your hands on and, your Instagram feed is full of training stuff and fitness influencers (the proper ones)

Your family think your obsessed and, your friends think you eat weird (cause your careful about what you put into your body)

Am I close?

Thought so

Here’s What Happens to People Like You And I, Next...

The people who used to say you ate weird? Are asking for your advice.

Your family are so inspired by your motivation, dedication and, results

that they’re asking how they should start looking after themselves better too.

Everyone down the gym sees you as the go to girl or guy to ask for advice,

or to train with and pick up a few tips.

You’re probably getting a few DM’s and comments daily from people who you inspire,

saying they wish you would take all this more seriously cause they’d love to work with you.

And the even cooler thing that all of this is;

You LOVE doing this.

Helping people grow by sharing what you know feels amazing.

You feel like a brand new person doing it.

It feels good to know that what you’ve learned to this point can help people even if it’s just in some small way.

You get excited by the idea that you can help people make healthier choices, you’re helping them get in shape and look after themselves better

That’s when you start thinking that this hobby could be more.

See taking control of your fitness and health can show you how much potential you have to change things in your life, to be happier to find meaning and purpose. To make a difference

And so, you start to imagine what life would be like if you were doing this full time….

Like what if everyday you got up, and while everyone else was heading to the office to sit all day in front of a computer screen, you were heading to the gym to take the morning sessions with your clients

Wouldn’t that be awesome? You’re thinking to yourself.

That’s cause to people like you and I this is a hobby.

It’s something you would do everyday for FREE and be incredibly happy and fulfilled.

A Crazy Idea Pops Into Your Head….

“Holy SHeeit…. What if I became a Personal Trainer and tried helping people transform their bodies, like what if, that was my job???”
But up until this point you’ve never had the conversation with anyone who could show you the potential and opportunities in Fitness.

All you have are questions and not a lot of concrete answers

“Like how do I even start?”

“DO I need to spend 3 years doing a degree course before I’m ready?

“What about Strength and conditioning I heard that was important.”

“What’s these Personal Training courses for what’s all this about REPS Ireland ?”

I totally get it cause I had the exact same questions and worries when I started

What I really wanted to know was;

How To Turn A Passion for Fitness Into A Real Career

I absolutely wish I could look back and tell my younger self what I know now
hindsight as they say is 20/20 so this information I’m about to share won’t help me but it 100% will help you and save you from a ton of ballache and confusion.

so I’m gonna lay out all the options I had in front of me and the pros and cons I weighed up for each

OPTION 1. Go To College / University

Positives:

  •  Get a higher level qualification or a degree in Sports science for example
  • Learn all about biochemistry, anatomy, and exercise physiology.

Negatives:

  •  Very lecture heavy and practical application light from everyone I asked who completed these courses
  • Takes at least a couple years to complete (more than likely, I was talking 4 - 6 years).
  • Costs tens of thousands of Euro’s and could leave me deep in debt.
  • Doesn’t prepare me for the day-to-day work of training real people (i.e. doesn’t show me how to write training programs or nutritional plans people will actually follow).
  • Didn’t go deep enough in to the actual coaching on the floor practical knowledge I needed to understand how to train people from all walks of life and for all types of goals
  • Too deep in theory and left little time for practical application
  • Delivers few (if any) classes or resources on change psychology or business development.

OPTION 2. Get A personal Trainer Certification

Positives:

  •  Costs way less money.
  • Learn enough anatomy and physiology to feel semi-competent.
  • Faster than going back to school
  • The certificate I earned would make me seem more credible to potential clients.

Negatives:

  •  Didn’t seem as “credible” as a degree.
  •  I Didn’t know which certification is “good” and which certification is “bad"
  • Still didn’t teach me much about change psychology or business development.

So, You Know What I Did??

I went and signed up for a PT Course
and while I enjoyed the time I had with those guys and had “the craic”.

I got little to no substance from the course content.

Courses back then had a lotta emphasis on dancing and aerobics type stuff.

Crazy thing is a LOT of these courses I see today are still stuck in that time warp. Like they haven’t moved in a single year. I mean it’s not 1980 anymore.

Who the hell does aerobics? Like is that still a thing?

Then when it came to the actual stuff that I wanted and went there to learn i.e.

Programming for various goals that I would encounter in the real world,

• How to progress and regress exercises effectively for different clients,

• Correct movement assessments to use to determine compensations clients could have and what to do about it,

• Learning how to promote behavioural change,

Actual on the floor coaching practice

• how to improve my coaching cues

Gaining the “coaches eye”

all that cool stuff.
Well it NEVER materialised.

what I got was depressingly average at best.

Now remember I only took up training at 15 but I very quickly loved it and got into Kickboxing, that lead to Sprinting (100’s and 200’s) and Olympic lifting that kind of thing, and my gym training was all supplemental to that purpose.

So it was all performance related training methods, you know S&C stuff.

But for the average punter in the gym just looking to feel better or drop a few pounds it was useless.

So That’s what I signed up to learn.

But it didn’t happen. For whatever reason.

Then as I stood there at the end of the course a qualified “Personal Trainer” certificate in hand, I felt like a fraud.

See the realisation hit me right then that I didn’t go for a certification I went there for the certainty to do what it says on there

I wanted to feel like an accomplished coach, with the knowledge, tools, skills and abilities to help people get real world results

I wanted to feel like a proper “fitness professional”

And the guys I speak to every single day are the exact same and they realise that qualification does not certify you to train people....

Its EDUCATION that does that

“Certs” Are All The Same

And when all the certifications are the same in Ireland today
(and you can check that out on the REPS Ireland right here)
https://www.repsireland.ie/tp-directory
You can see that all the approved providers issue the same qualification standard.

Then you have to ask the real important question. Where do they differ?

If the certs are all the same like what’s the difference.

Education and experience is where we vary hugely.

And that’s when you see that the education you get when you come onto a course is exactly what you need to look into further so you make the right choice for you.

When we were creating the Elite Fitness and Performance Academy course content we took it directly from our coaches training course.

What that means is you get trained by us exactly as if you were going to become a coach and work in our Strength and conditioning facility

The beauty of that is you don’t just get the bog standard course that required to achieve the certification

You get way more. Because what we view as the required knowledge to work in our gym is way higher than what is required to achieve a Reps Course.

Plus you must have completed the required coaching hours on the floor to prove you can actually apply the information.

Put simply we created the education that I wish I had all those years back cause it would have saved me a ton of “ballache” and time.

The kind of education that means our candidates get picked first out of anyone in interviews and the kind that pisses off Sports Science graduates after even 4 years when our guys are better more accomplished coaches.

But here’s the thing our education (which we wrote ourselves) was created with one singularity of purpose

to create the finest coaches we could with the best practical application and understanding possible in the time we had.

While other education purpose was to get passed for Reps Accreditation. A grade which sat a whole lot lower in the required information and ability.

Now it's important to note that we don’t do any aerobics or dancing whatsoever so if someone was wishing to learn that they would be hugely disappointed by our course.

SO it’s different strokes for different folks you see you have to dig a little deeper when making any of these decisions and pick the best route for your self.

Like in all honesty you can have all the certificates in the world but its really the education you get that’s gonna make you stand out from every other personal trainer in your area.
You know here’s the gods honest truth. No one is every even gonna look at your cert.
Yes you need one for your insurance requirements etc but once that’s done no one is ever gonna wanna see it.
What they will see is your knowledge skills and ability train people in getting results they’re gonna pay you for so if you want to be a coach working on the gym floor in a training capacity you should choose the course that makes you better at doing that.
